    Stock horespower of a 1977 350?

Hi, I bought a 77 Chevy c10 that my dad and I are redoing the body on, due to it being rusted out really bad. The truck runs great and is mechanically sound so I don't really want to mess with it too much as far as the drive train goes. It is a 350 with a stock 4 barrel carb and 350 turbo tranny. I am wondering how much horsepower these engines make stock, I have looked all over and haven't found anything consistent. Eventually I plan to pull the engine and build it up to be a little more fun, but not just yet. Any info you could give about the numbers coming out of these trucks stock would be great!

    Thanks in advance!

In the mid 70s horse power numbers listed were NET --taken at end of trans tailshaft with all accessories hooked up---alt/water pump/p/s----and was in a period of time when compression, etc was toned down to make the exhaust pipe smell good---of course all the sniffers already had there sense of smell burnt out from what ever they were sniffing------------

But in my Chilton manual list 75-76 350 4 barrel 8.5 compression at 165

That's kind of what I had read, I saw that stock ratings were around 175. I didn't know how accurate that was because I know for a while the factories lied about the stock numbers for insurance reasons if I'm not mistaken. I have also added a spectre air intake and headers and dual glasspacks. How much of a gain do you think that will get me? Thanks!

The '76/77 Corvettes only listed 210HP for the 350, and they weren't lying for the insurance companies in 1976/77 - that was back pre-'73 before the impacts of the oil embargo hit the market. Unfortunately the numbers quoted for the late '70's were more true than not. I'd think that your intake and headers might have added ten to fifteen HP at most, just thinking & guessing.

My 76 L48 was rated at 180 from the factory though I don't think that is what it is now.
