a 496 make alot of TQ more then a sbc . i done the mark 4 block and 5 and 6 blocks some has alot to do with what block you find .if your looking for a GM block any of them will work the older block s are the ones i like to work with 1970 to 89 mark 4 but good older blocks are getting hard to find . as for the rods you can and i have built 1/2 dozen or more with the re built stock size rod with a 4.250 crank . but more 489.s 496s 540s.548s. 556.565 with the 4.250 crank and 6385 rods. i have built the bbc with bore size 4.310 to 4.625 . with a 4.250 . 4.375.4.500 ,4.750 cranks and building a some day 5.500 crank engine .some of theres builds needs a world .dart . bowtie blocks and many others that can take a big bore some blocks have a spread oil pan rails and a hi cam block for bigger then a 4.750 crank .you did ask about the two bolt bbc there are very strong one of the best botton ends out there in stock form they will hold more power then any stock 4bolt GM sbc ever dreamed of taken . to get cap walk on a bbc you have to be pushing very ....very hardLast edited by pat mccarthy; 08-05-2010 at 07:08 PM.

Hi, you know a good motor to use if you are able to use a blower is a 366 tall deck bbc. The pistons are huge and can take alot of heat, and the smaller size is not as much of a factor with the blower. They can be had super cheap at the junkyard, and if you tear one up who cares, get another one. But they are indestructable!! I have always wanted to do this, they come in garbage trucks school busses kodiak top kicks and dump trucks.. They seem like they are meant for a blower, they already have the right compression ratio even... my .02
