I've been on a tour of the SCAT facility and they make many different kinds of cranks from what I could tell. Every thing from carving one out of a huge billet of steel, to machine "semi done" raw forged cranks, to what I think we are talking about here, which is "repackaged" off shore cranks which are built to their spec's. It always comes down to price, and what we are willing to pay.
We run 86mm SCAT "flanged cranks" in our VW drag motors and have never had a "crank caused" engine failure.
Very happy with SCAT cranks, not so happy with their flat tappet lifter pitting.
