Street/strip Sb 350 Build Up
HOW would you build up a small block 350 for a street/strip 3500lb auto trans 411gear car ? Must stay with 4" max 30 over bore and 3.48 stroke crank . What Block 1pc or 2pc seal /pistons /heads/camshaft/ intake and carb and ignition sys would you use . And what kind of HP do you think it may have . Thanks for all your ideas

How fast are you wanting to go?
What is the budget?
How long do you want it to last?
Are turbos or nitrous allowed?

My budget is $1000 bucks but I do have the short block with flat top pistons done . So the $1000 is for the heads cam and timing chain intake and carb . No turbo or spray . What heads do you guys think are the best for the bucks ? And what camshafts do you like less then 500lift non roller . And intake / carb set up ? Thanks _ You all have great ideas

That's not much money for a topend, unless you're buying used components (and refurbishing them) or very generic pieces (like a storebrand camshaft). I say this because aluminum aftermarket heads go for more than $1000 new, you might get away with say, $750 for cast irons, but then you have the intake ($120+), carb (depending if you get a stock q-jet and make that work), and various related things.

I was thinking of using a set of Vortec heads . They are between $475 and $650 . Or a set of World S/R Torquers I can buy the bare ones and assemble them myself . I also have a set of good #186 Fuelle heads 194/150 64CC that I might pin the studs and use . If I use the Fuelle heads then I cans spend more on the camshaft and intake set up . What camshaft and intake do you have in mind ?

A properly built Q-jet is supposed to be killer, but that might put you out of your budget. Is this for street, strip, running over old ladies? If you use the vortec's and they haven't been modified, there's only a certain amount of lift they can support. It should be fairly simple to find an intake to match the where the camshaft makes power. In fact, you may want to call the cam companies (can't remember if Erik or it was techinspector that used to recommend this action) and see what they say given your inputs and where you want to be (in terms of heads, engine, exhaust, transmission, etc). Hopefully the specs they give match up pretty well.

I do have some good used intakes and carbs . I have a Edelbrock Torker 1 and a 2101 Performer intake . Also I have A Holley 1850 600 V/S I think its to small . And a Holley 3310-2 750cfm V/S its a nice carb and clean but it needs the power valve protection kit and a rebuild . And I do have an OK 1970 Q-JET from a 1970 350 Chevy . I was thinking of using the Q-JET if my cash runs low at the time when I want to run the engine . But I really want to buy one of those Thunder 650cfm AVS carb at a latter date .Last edited by tango; 11-17-2007 at 09:48 PM.

I would look at the Dart Iron Eagle S/S heads.

I would look at cams that are at 230@.050 on the intake side and 236 to 240 on the exhaust side more for the N20.
To run a cam this size you will need to have a 9.5 to 10 to 1 comp. ratio.
I would go 108 -110 L/S or 112-114 L/S if you want to use the spray.
