A 1968 engine probably had a PCV valve in that hole. A sheet metal, domed cap had a through-bolt to hold it, and a smaller tube to hold the valve. The vented filler cap on the other end of the manifold completes the system.

While I agree with Pope that it's a good spot for the PCV I have also seen them plugged with a "freeze plug". The hose fitting referred to is somewhat difficult to come by (I'd like to find one right now in fact), but a correctly sized "rubber" grommet could be used too.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Here's a pic of one Scoot. This is one that someone reefed a bit too much and has distorted it. These were used on 283 and 327 of late '60s.Last edited by Bob Parmenter; 09-20-2007 at 06:23 AM.
