step up 1.750 stock for a small block @130 lbs to lite and coil bind is 1.200 at 385 lbs 500 lift is pushing it ? you will need a hire setup like 1.850Irish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

Are the springs shimmed? You could gain a little height but give up some pressure, 385 is plenty with the valve open I would think.

I now it's not a chebbie, but the Pinto wagon with the 289 and 5 speed I had about a gadzillion years ago ran about the same rpm, crossed the line @7200. Was a long time back, but the lift was in the 520's and duration was split, both in the 280's. This was with the cast iron 271hp/289ci heads angle milled to 58cc. Maybe the guru's will know what that mini mouse would want as opposed to my antique blue oval setup!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Many moons ago, Schneider Cams had some really strong skinny block flat tappet cams, don't know if they still do or not. They had real good selection and price was reasonable, too. Used to be they could get you as close to a custom grind as you could get without paying the big $$$$ for a custom grind....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Pat, should you alter the valve spring pressures when using the new "trick of the month" cams with the higher ramp speeds???Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Some lightweight components would help it live a little better. Been out of the engine stuff for a lot of years, would like to try some of the newer stuff sometime....
