    355 engine desktop dyno needed

    Ok here are the specs:

    Vortec heads
    Edelbrock Performer Vortec intake
Performer 1400 carb (600 cfm carter style)
350 four bolt main, 1-piece rear main seal
Scat 4340 rods stock replacement forged i-beam
Speed pro pistons flat top, 2 vavle relief .030 over
cam, crane cams powermax lift: .427"/.454", duration 260*/272*
stock stamped rockers that came w/ the vortecs
    accel distributor with new module/coil
    decent ignition wires
    stock crank
    street dampr
stock exhaust manifold, although might get headers

I am hoping to get around 300-350 horse and hopefully 350-400ft lbs for a daily driver truck that will see ocassional towing. I'd like to use less than 89 octane and get at least 150-200k miles with decent fuel mileage. I'd also like it to be somewhat reasonable $$-wise to build. Thanks for your help! Oh yeah, the vortecs are good to use right? Buddy of mine says he built a customer's engine with them and said the sound was great but throttle response kinda sucked.

ok, thank you. Not to sound dumb, but I thought vortecs were like 72ccs? If I don't have open headers and since there'll be a load, would that bring everything down cuz right now I'm looking at about 311 max hp and 318 max torque since valves will float at 5500 rpm, right? Sorry, just trying to figure out how to read this. Hmmmm, that's not a lot of torque. Thanks!

    edit: i guess the vortec heads are 64cc. . . . .wonder where I got 72?. . . .

They are sitting on the floor of my truck, they did come off a truck motor, so they prolly are 64cc. I'd check the casting but I've got one arm in a cast cuz of a broken elbow.

will do. . . . .I'm just concerned with those torque numbers. . . . engine efficiency seems to come alive at 6k also. . . .would a cam change that? change the torque that is.

Hey Red, I looked over my cam input figures and found a decimal in the wrong place,

Here is the corrected dyno sim, flywheel, not rear wheel,

No more late night input for me.

The cam specs. are .427/.454 duration at .050 is 204/216.
There is no way this cam is making 437 hp at 6,000 rpms.
Crane says it has a 1,500-4,500 rpm power band.
I would guess it would make max. hp. around 4,200 rpms and not 6,000 rpms.
He would be darn lucky to get 337 hp out of it let alone 437.
Like I said before if you put crap in for information you will get crap out.

Yeah it look way high to me also, but I triple checked the input , I wish some one had some engine specks and REAL flywheel dyno numbers that it produced so I could compare and know once and for all if it's good/close/junk, you got any from a engine dyno Erik ?

Did not mean to cause an argument. Sounds like my engine is tearing this forum apart!

Anybody know where to get dyno software locally? I need to change the cam (may run overdrive) to one with a power range in a lower RPM and pistons, since these are 9.73 and that will not allow 87-89 octane. Thanks guys!

If you want a "baseline" hp reading try www.proracingsim.com
They also have software on picking the right cam also.
Don't be arfaid to get up your check book it does not come cheap.

No argument issues here, if this software can be used reliably I'll use it, if not it was a fun program to play with for awhile and I'll make a overpriced coaster out of it.

The basic what will/won't work for most engines have already been figured out, whats left is the fine tweeks IMHO.

For most I'd guess it comes down to $$$, how fast can you afford to go, and where best to spend it.

pick two cause all three can never be used at the same time.
