No special tools are required, but it helps to thread a long bolt or a long piece of allthread (to give you some leverage) into the snout of the cam so that you can remove it and also install the new one without having the lobes gouge the cam bearings as you slide it in and out. There are commercially available "camshaft installation tools" that do the same thing and are much more spendy than a piece of allthread.
