why would you stay at the 4470 bore? if you bore that engine out to the 4.500 bore you can get alot of more pistons at the 4.500 bore size then 4.470 i know they make them but the bores would have to be like new to stay there but i would bore it any way its not to hard to get in the boring bar .with a 4.500 shelf piston and then the 4.250 crank will be 540 i built some of them .i have built some 489 and 496 has well here is the way i see it stock gm 9.800 block 489.496 .511 . gm bow tie. world.dart . 9.800 540 to 565 with a 4.250 crank with a 4.375. 582CID . tall deck 598 or 632 every thing cost the same with shelf pistons other then the 4.375 crank would be customs. the marine 502 block they say can not be bore out to 4.600 but i did short block one some time ago . so the what if a 496 or 540 well thats ez for me that has alot to do with what block you have to work with less some one is giving you a 502 block i would not wast much time with one less very cheap... if you looking to buy a used block save up more and build a 565 4.600 bore 4.250 crank you can add Nos but less you have had a engine that can make 800+ EZ hp you may want to cool it on the Nos right know i can get new 9.800block s for less then $1700. that can go to 4.600 getting the tall deck in a car can be bit more work your looking a big tube 2.1/4 to 2.3/8 headers and custom $$$ and you need a very good oil panLast edited by pat mccarthy; 09-08-2010 at 08:04 PM.
