Harmonic Balancer Dimensions
I have a 1969 396 and the original balancer is slipping apart. It's a 7" but Summit Racing shows an 8" for this application. It was on the motor when I purchased it. Who's right? If it's supposed to be a 7" could I go to an 8"? Will it effect the performance? I know it will require changing the timing indicator.
Thanks.

Damper Doctor takes OEM dampers, presses them apart, then replaces the elastomeric material and presses them back together, clocking them properly so you can properly time the motor.
They show a 7" damper for a 396/402/427. There is an 8" damper listed for a 427 that would work with a different timing tab as you said.

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
