I may end up refreshing my 427. this stuff is starting to add up to this and that and for a saterday night duster, a 496 is probably gonna be overkill.
the same lift to as yours ? run a hyd roller on the street if for street and some drag racing but for all out racing it solid roller both cams i have now are solid and ones a 700 lift cam in my 548 was in my 462 and the other is a 741/731 276/287 @ 050 and thats in the 632 donovan i run many others as well the small 700 lift cam i used over 8 years my 100 over 454 had a crower cam and that i drive all over that was 20 years ago my 462 and 468 i had a comp 680/680 at around 268 @ 50 was EZ on parts as well as the lunati for my 548 14to8 street engine that was a 748 lift cam that had many street miles on it never had a lifter go bad. i built some bbc to. from time to time i here about a lifter going bad but i know of more flat lifter cams that did and hyd roller is what i put in all street bbc builds less it a all out engine then it is solid roller and now with the hippo lifters i think your odds are better the only thing i can say about the guy you know hard to say if he did every thing rigth ? the way i build them works for me first thing is wash out the lifters in thinner blow dry and let them set in oil before you put them in
