You dont want it to be too ridgid, or it will start to crack, the stock frame should be fine with a built BB

i have built a few
i have had several of these trucks and i currently mud race an 82 chev k1500, mild big block 150 shot nitrous. these trucks will handle huge power in relatively stock form. t400 trans is highly recommended as are 3/4 axles and a 205 tcase. other what are your plans, street or off road and how big of tires? i street drove the last truck with a stock 454 4spd standard and 3.07 gears and got 14mpg all the time. if you are off roading i highly recommend lower gears.my current rig has 35" boggers and 5.13 gears but it is a trailer queen and does not see any road.

if you have a 454 that makes good power it will be hard to keep the drive line in it less your going to be EZ on it

that 10 bolt and the 7004r are two of the weakest components gm ever put in full size trucks.

I recommend a 14 bolt rear and a dana 60 front. If you've got a 208 transfer-case, you may want to swap it for a 205, they are quite a bit stronger.I ain't dumb, I just ain't been showed a whole lot!

A 10 bolt rear is a good rear end and for your week end cruises and cruise night driving it will last you. I had a 10 bolt rear with 3.73 gears with a posi in a 1980 Z28. It ran 12 flat passes all years long and I pulled litteraly thousands of holeshots over the 10 years I had that car. I had at least 1500 passes at the strip, and who knows how many thousands of holeshots I pulled driving it around, as it was also my daily driver the whole time I owned it. I dont think I ever once drove that car without running it full tilt at least once.

yep the 10 bolts are strong but you did not have 35 tall mud tires on it and that truck 10 have that i think a tinker toy limit slip the ring gear is good on the 10 boltLast edited by pat mccarthy; 08-30-2008 at 05:49 AM.
