    Cool 427 innards

Okay, I bought the 427 tall deck truck block that Mooneye777 had for sale,[very nice piece, exactly what he said it was!] It has a beefy forged steel crank in it that I plan to re-use, stock rods and cast 4-ring pistons. I was thinking about having the rods shot-peened to make them a little stronger, and going to a forged 3-ring piston. Do you guys have any opinions on the best piston to run? Also, are there any opinions on shot peening? Is it worth it, or should I just buy aftermarket rods? Keep in mind, I don't have a great deal of money to spend on it at this time.

    Thanx in advance fellas,

    Adam

I would just order new I- beam rods from Scat or Eagle.
Buy the time you re-build your rods you will have over $200 in them.
If you shop around you should be able to buy a set of Scat or Eagle rods for about $300.
For pistons I would run a set of SRP/JE pistons.

if you go to the 3 ring piston then you will need 400 longer rods the 4 ring piston are not good for much.and you can run a shelf piston srp or put a 454 crank in it and bore it 060 over that way you can get some cid with the money you spend. on the stock rods they need nothing like getting shot peened you will never see the money . big block have great rods they do not need much less you want to do the work .but at that point then buy some scats rods
