    Cool 540 BBC heads/cam

    Hi u guys,
I am new to this forum. I have read a lot here and like what I read.
I am currently building a 540 big block chevy for my 1970 Corvette. I love this car a lot, it currently has a small block 350. I figure the engine is the easy part, everything around it is the problem! My other car is a '94 Z28 blown 355 LT1 about 600 horse, that car is pretty fast. The vette is going to be a high performance street car, not a race car!

Here are my plans for the motor, please post any comments:
Gen VI bow-tie block, 4 bolt splayed, 4.5" bore
SRP 8 cc domed pistons, H-beam rods
    Static compression approx. 10:1
Solid Roller cam, around 240-250 intake/250-260 exhaust duration, 650 lift, 112 or even 114 LSA, need a decent idle if possible
Heads: Edelbrock Victor 24 deg 345 cc, Dart 325, or one of Trick Flow's new heads
Intake: Edelbrock Vic Jr or Holley Strip Dominator
    Carb: Speed Demon 850 DP

The big question is the heads of course, such a critical component of the engine. The exhaust ports on the Edelbrocks are raised around 3/4" from stock and I don't know if the 345 cc is too big or not. These heads were specially designed with the big bore motor, I just don't know if they are streetable or not.

I was going to go with a hydraulic roller cam, but have changed my mind. Seems a lot of guys are selling these and going to solid rollers.

    Thanks a lot,
    fast eddy

i have run more then one 548 on the street with a soild roller cam and you do not need to go over kill on the heads 325cc heads will do .i would look at the BMF330 heads . i have use a team G with some work done to it or the supper vic i would not use the holley dominator intake .the cam would have to do with your rpm and how much stall you want to run .carb may be abit small

At 240 to 250 at .050 a hyd. roller is just fine.
    Why bother with valve adjustments.
Also at 240 to 250 I would look at an AFR 305cc head.
I would not even look at heads any larger than the 305 cc AFR un-less you jump your cam up above 260 at .050.
    I would run a flowed 850 carb.

Thanks for the advice u guys.

I wanted to go solid roller 'cause they rev higher and have less of a chance of valves floating. The valve adjustments I can handle, it's pretty easy to pull the valve covers off. At this point, I am pretty set on the solid roller.

What's wrong with the holley dominator intake? I guess I can run different intakes and see which one runs the best. I even have a dual plane team G intake, it's basically a weiand stealth.
