    366 Tall Deck

I had a 366 Tall Deck motor gave to me today.
It has head casting # 330864 is this a decent head to use for a 454 build ??
other than heads and rods is there anything else of use out of this motor ??

    Thanks , Mike

Open chambers, Oval ports. Used on a variety of 396-454 apps. Larger valves and some bowl work will be okay for a street motor or a boat. save the rods and crank. Forged crank and the rods are durable stuff. Just don't anticipate going huge HP and TQ numbers. I have one left that can be punched to 4.250 bore and it gives me the opportunity to go longer rods, etc. Good enough stuff to have on hand to build a reliable budget motor with some other good components later.
What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?

I was going to save the rods. what good would the crank be ??
not planing on building the 366 block
wanting to build a 454 block, i know where i can get a 4 bolt block (454) and some ross racing pistons that are .100 or .125 over and they have a very large dome on them, thought they would work good with the heads off this 366.
Am i going the wrong direction here ??

Crank is the same as a 396 and 427. It is forged not cast. Budget constraints play a big roll in all of our projects. I have built some some motors using this crank with 4.375 and 4.450 and 4.50 bores for some serious winding PRM's. Anything can be done. Question is, where do you wanna go with it? As far as the pistons go, as long as they have the pin heighth where you wish, put them in the works. Rod length is the varying factor and if the pistons fit you 454 design, go for it. Like I said, "Where do you wanna go?'' (P.S., if you run that crank in a 454 block, you have a base 427 to start with).

the pistons are for a stock stroke and stock rod (454)
Of course i want what everyone wants as much power as i can get for as little cost as possible.

What direction would you go with what i have and can get ???

On your 366 block, what can be used for a 454 build would be the rods, the heads, The existing crank would be only for a 396 or 427 stroke,if your are looking to build a 454 with a 454 block your going to need a 454 crank not a 366 crank, the rods however can be used as they are the same.
