if you are waiting for the motor to flaten out before you shift you are losing a lot of time there. shift before it gets there and you'll run quicker. ant nothing wrong with 5000-5500 rpm with a stock 454. thats about all of it. to get more you;ll need to go bigger on most everything, heads, cam, carb., and exhaust so its really no cheap way to do it.
