This post is not meant to insult anyone or make anybody mad, im not talking down to anybody its JMO and im sticking to it. No ill take that back, if anyone can convince me how it can be done ill take it back. im talking st. car, not drag car.
the reason i was asking about the times is, im seeing people all the time on here with 454s, 8 lb. boost, 2-750 carb. all the cam in the world, big heads and everything else you can think of and still looking for more hp and its hard for me to believe they need it. i ran total ass junk most of the time and had more power than i needed on my blown st. cars. i don't believe you can build a blown st. car with that motor in it and drive it to the track, put all the slick you can get under finders and hook that car up. either i was accidentally building some bad ass motors or somebody else is just building plane bad motors. i was running 3 blown motors at the same time with all kinds of dif. stuff in them and one thing i didn't have to do was go looking for more power. that motor brian is talking should run high 6s or low 7s easy in the 1/4 mi. i never tried to run any of the 454 blower st. cars i had at the stripe because there was no way to get it to hook up and still have something you could drive home. i had a blown stock 350 in an el camino that i broke axles, drive shafts, trans. and everything else you could think of with that, so what the hell you gonna do with a blown 454. i stop running the 350 el camino after a while and took all the half broke stuff laying around the shop and built a vega. wagon just for the strip and put that stock 350, 1 750 carb., stock lifters, mild cam, stock rocker arms, good heads, 4-71 blower with 4 lb. of boost,(the blower was that wore out) 7.5 comp. ratio, 3000 lb. car. no stall conv., idling at the light, 33" tall slicks, 4:10 gear , 400 trans and shifted at 5000 rpm, and could run a 10.9 all night long. without the 4 lb. of boost it would have been a 14 sec. or slower car id love to see a st. car driven to the track with a good 454 with 8 lb. of boost run the 1/4 mi. just one time.(with any kind of consistence) im talking flat out, it ant gonna happen. i went to the Richmond drag strip for about 10 yrs. off and on and i was the only blower motor i saw there unless it was something special going on and i never saw another local car with a blower there, and there is a reason. they are not practical motors to go to the drag strip with every now and then. im talking building it for all its worth, not de-tuning it so it cant spin the wheels, if you gonna do that why spend the big bucks. so tell me where i went wrong.
