    Yardage Needs

I am having covers made for the Fiero Seats in a leather-ette (vinyl) material, and can get bulk matching material with the order. By my measure my flat panel need is 8 2/3 yards of material 54" wide, allowing for panel overlaps, etc. I am thinking that it is prudent to order ten yards to allow for seam allowances, etc, but having zero experience and no design in mind I'm looking for some advice. I would rather have a yard left over than be 6" short, but I really don't want to throw money away on material that won't be used. What is a prudent waste allowance on yard good material?

if you want it yo match, I would buy twice what I thought I needed. anything can happen while doing a project. least you have some left for any future changes or repairs. Just think of murphy's law

tudorkeith is right on this one. I dp this all the time, but still there are times when things don't match up right. If you say you need 8 & 2/3 yards, you might want to go for the 10 yards. If everything comes out right the first time, you will not be throwing your money away. Save the left overs in case, down the line, you have a tear in one of the panels on the seat.

I always order extra to do a job and what I don't use I can use at a later date.

I actually measure 8 2/3 yards of flat panel measure (simple length x width) only allowing for some extra to wrap panels edges, etc, with nothing for seams, pleats, or visual effects. Based on what you and tudorkeith are saying, I'm concerned that 10yds may not be enough. At $15/yard I may be better off going with 12 yards, which is almost 40% extra by area?

Think 10 yds or 12 yards---at 15.00 a yard the spread is 30.00. Thats not even a friday night at a local watering hole.----go for the 15 yards.

might be worth asking if you can get a better price with a larger quantity ordered. might pay for a yard or two
