I second it as I have been in the buisness about 23 years
I have been doing it for 15 years. I do more custom work than anything.
Convertible tops and repairs are what I do the most with some custom work and a few vinyl tops,we do alot of city vehicles too.
I know I would appreciate hearing from you two as I have a couple of projects that will need interiors.
Hmmmm, I've got a headliner that I need some help on...
I like the idea of some interior tutorials on specific subjects, like how to do a headliner in a glass car with wood top bows and door surrounds; or tips on door panel construction. In the current arrangement I will be posting up questions in Hot Rod Talk or Shop Talk, but an "Interiors Talk" section would be OK, too. For me it is just great that you guys are here and willing to share your knowledge.:D
I wish that I had taken pictures of the headliner as it was being installed in the 57 Chevy so I could share them step by step. I will do that on the next one coming in.
As for door panels. There are several ways to make them. You could do they original look or you could do a custom door panel, like the ones in the 57 Chevy. I enjoy doing the custom panels. With this kind of panel you can use your imagination and make something that is one of a kind.
Custom panels are very creative. You can combine the hard look with the loose pleated look to give your panels more detail.
Stock (OEM) panels are only good if you are going for the complete original look. Custom seats generally don't look as good with OEM panels. It's one way or the other.
I am starting a 1979 Ford truck seat in a few days and I will give a step-by-step how to on this project. I hope it will give you an idea of what it takes to reupholster a seat. I will also let you know what tools are needed to complete the job. See ya soon.

I would still like to see an upholstery section so that we can have a place to talk about issue that people might have if they want to do-it-themselves. I belong to several forums and there's a lot of real good info passed around in their upholstery sections.
OK. No answer. I thought this sight was all about sharing information with each other. I found another forum and I will share my knowledge with them, and they already had a section for Upholstery and interiors. That tells me they enjoy sharing info.
