how do i go about finding out what transmission. i got?
I have an 81 pick-up with a 4 speed, 4x4, i was wondering how do i go about finding out what are the gears in it? it needs to be rebuilt and i was wanting to take out 1st (granny) and move 2nd up to 1st and 3rd up to 2nd and 4th up to 3rd and put a taller 4th gear in its place. But i would like to know what transmission i got first. The engine in the truck is a rebuild 327 if you needed to know what engine is in it.

Changed the shocks yesterday to OEM spec Monroe, they are still gas shocks. Disappointed that the ride is still very firm, it is not as bad but I was hoping for better. Might have something to do...
