The neutral safety switch is wired into the circuit going to the starter solenoid. When the transmission is in forward or reverse gear, the switch is in the OPEN position (disconnected). This action prevents current from activating the solenoid and starter when the ignition switch is turned to the START position. When the transmission is in neutral or park, the switch is closed (connected), allowing current to flow to the starter when the ignition is turned. The neutral safety switch and the backup light switch should be one in the same like the one I posted. I don't know if all models are ONE switch? You should get a wiring diagram with the switch or get the parts guy to make copy of the wiring diagram. Or use a continuity tester to sort out which circuts are open and which are closed at each switch postition. Did I help or make you more confused.?

Yup. that's how the neutral safety switch should be wired. I don't know what your back up light switch looks like, but it would have to have 2 different circuits inside the switch. The neutral switch side would be closed in park and neutral and open in reverse and forward gears. The backup side of the switch should only be closed in reverse and open in all other positions.
