I paid $1300 for a rebuilt 700R4 about six months back, which included the cost of him getting a core tranny, the requisite shift kit to beef it up a bit and a new torque converter. A TH350 or 400 would have been a bit cheaper, but not a ton. Local independent shop that all of the area dealers use for their tranny work. Face to face word of mouth from other gearheads, local auto parts stores, and small independent garages that don't do tranny work themselves has worked best for me. Most small repair shops will do the R&R, but take the tranny to a shop for rework, then warrant the work themselves. That's the shop you want to find.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
