Shift Rod Seal Removal TH350....How?

Can someone help me out here? How do you remove the small seal around the gear selector shaft of a TH350? Do you need to drop the pan and push it out from the inside or is there a specialty tool made for this? I've tried various caveman techniques so for with less than desireable results. In fact, it's gonna leak a lot worse now than when it did when I started .

Did you try the old trick of running a sheet metal screw into the seal and then yank it out with a pair of vise grips? generally works for me, Hank

I've used halftanked method for years (usually I drive the point of a sharp awl into the metal part of the seal, between the shaft and outer seal edge to get the screw to start).

They (bluepoint KD ?) that I picked up a while back. Bacically a hollow shaft tapered and threaded on the outside. It screws into the seal then has a pushout bolt that you screw in and it pulls the seal. Actually pretty slick, seems like it was about $30.

Yeah yeah I know $30 for something I've used $2.00 worth of tools to do the same job for years.....but hey, it's a TOOOOL and I didn't have one

Nor does it destroy the casing where most leaks in this area occur. Like Mike said, I believe KD makes one. Prices have come down a touch to make it a worthwhile tool to keep in your box. Oh, and OTC makes one.
