C-4 noises
I have a C-4 in my 55 sunliner and the trans is making some noises that sound to me like some bushings are going bad,the shifting of the trans has not changed but the noise is getting louder. Other then the output shaft and possibly a bushing in the pump for the convertor are there any other bushings between those two that I need to specify to be changed by whoever rebuilds the trans if those parts are not normally changed during a rebuild.

everything that spins turns on a bushing .. clutch drums, sprag gears ..a competant builder will replace all bushings anyway ...

Just for giggles, check the torque convertor to flexplate bolts. Sometimes those work loose and sound like something serious is wrong.

I just had it happen on a buick station wagon I had. Sounded like the tranny was going south. Turned out the flex plate bolds were lose. Tighted them up and everything was perfect. Worth a try!

I will give that a try but its just a 65 dollar junkyard trans I was going to rebuild but thought I would see if it was good, been in for 5 years and over 10,000 miles and got me to Daytona and back last year so if it does need repaired I go my 65 dollars worth. Its not rattling like a loose convertor would be but sounds like bushings are going bad and the noise is in step with the rpms but well worth checking the convertor bolts first,I had not planned a rebuild for it just yet since I am going to go back with a Y block next year but if I want to go to Daytona this year a rebuild might have to happen.

They just aren't making those $ 65 transmissions like they used to. You got better use out of that one than most people get on an AAMCO rebuild.

Is it going into a build, or making a trip to NM?
