    gm had a steel rod that hook to the coulmn then to the tran s shifter lever.. lock out .. then to n switch in coulmn if you can not shift it the rod is out of adjustment or hiting on ex old n switch is still in the coulmn less you by past it .. was coulmn shift at one time
