    Geezer,
'83's had both T-5 and SROD 5 speeds, and they have different bellhousings so you'll need to get a 5.0 T-5 bellhousing with your tranny from the V-6. This is a paragraph from a discussion on upgrading a V-8 into a Fox Body Mustang:
Bellhousing: This depends on the transmission your are using but the 4 basic ones are the standard transmission bellhousing for a T5, standard transmission for the SROD or Toploader 4-speed, the auto bellhousing for a C4, and the auto bellhousing for the AOD. Other combos are different still such as the Tremec. The best way is to get the bellhousing with the tranny if possible.

Yep, my son used the term "..grenade waiting to explode" for the old T-5's from mustangs, so we went with a Tremec on the new build. One from a V-6 may have had an easier life. Good luck with this one!

Love mine also, but I'm easier on my cars than I once was .

Ratios are different in the V-6 cars. first is pretty low for a V-8. you may not like it behind a V-8 car unless it's just a daily grocery getter.

yes the early T-5 should physically bolt in, but since it's the early version from a V-6 car it won't be what they call the "world class" T-5 and won't like having even a mild amount of power put through it. My memory is kinda fuzzy on it (I blame Jack Daniels for that) but I want to say that the world class T-5 didn't show up until somewhere around '89 or '90.

thanks guys.im not goin after it for a couple weeks.that gives me plenty time to research these trannys.i dont mind a low first gear.its not a hot rod anyway.me wife wont let me add any power to it . she likes it like it is.the little car only has 47k on it.the old poot that had it gave it to his grandson who got drunk and ran it through a fence.my buddy picked it up and the old man said just keep it.hes not gettin it out for the kid so my buddy gave it to my wife.the price was rite!!!!

i also have one of them old 4 speeds.the one that 4th gear is overdrive.it will work but its not a top loader.id have to cut a hole for the shifter too.then the dang console wont work out.i think i'll try the 5 speed first.
