The manufacturer's tech is ill advised. You are correct that the size of the bore of the cylinders and the stroke of the master will determine the stroke of the slave. A larger or smaller line will speed up or slow down the reaction time between the two cylinders, but not so that you could see it on a stopwatch and it certainly won't change the stroke of the slave.
