Pulled the rear cover off the T5 to replace the speedo drive gear, as I have 3.55 rear end gearing, and needed to get a better ratio for correct speedo readings. Then trying to re-install, I couldn't get it to sit flush again, and figured I must have moved the change rod. Tried and tried to get it in the correct position, but to no avail, so decided to take off the mid cover, to look inside.

I was happy to see that the gears all looked good, no chipped teeth or unusual wear patterns. I did have a couple of broken pads on the shift forks, so I am glad I pulled the cover. These pads are little white nylon pieces that sit on either side of the shift forks, I gather to prevent metal to metal contact..I have to wait for these to come out of the USA, as none in Canada, which I thought was bloody odd.

So now I have it somewhat apart, should I be looking at any particular area, that is a known weak spot on these trannys?

I am replacing the shifter rod O ring, and the rear yoke seal. What about that split bushing just behind the seal, is that usually replaced. It does have a bit of wear, but I'm not even sure of it's function there, and how much wear is normal?

Thanks, Bill
