going to start and break-in rebuilt chevy 283, also had my th350 rebuilt. is there thing i should do to the trans (any way to pre-lube?)before firing engine up and running it at the required rpm's. really do not want to damage trans.

The true experts on here may have better info, but I have always just put as much fluid as possible in the upturned converter before putting it on, then filled the transmission and kept filling it as the level went down until it was finally topped off. I don't think there is any true break in procedure like there is with an engine, ie varying speeds, etc.

thank you for your speedy response! added 1 quart of fluid to converter before installing, not familiar with auto trans op. fluid will fill most of trans without engine running? i was thinking i might have to run the gear shift selector through to the gears to circulate fluid while engine idles, if not thats great! one less thing to worry about during break-in. thanks again itoldyouso.(don)
