Silly question: is your fluid level up?
If so, you need to pull the pan and check for yourself to determine whether it's shot or not.
If the pan looks like a science project from debris, time to go through it or have it built by somebody you trust.
If it looks like a little bit of dust and no major particles, try changing the filter and fluid, then test drive to make sure you have saved it or a total loss.
