    Blown trans

Well I found my weak link monday. Took the 53 for a hard ride and craped the tranny. The guy that rebuilt it said it would hold over 400hp. He didn't say how much over I spent 4 hours yesterday changing it I put in a spare off the shelf but I will take it easy on this one. Just wondering if I should go through the broken one or build a 400???

OOPS! TH350 with a shift kit. I don't know what all he did to it, but I haven't been easy on it. It no longer has 3rd gear, and made a lot of scraping noise. At least it got me home with out the aid of a tow .

And Thanks to whom ever moved this post. The old dog has to learn.

I ran a '73 Monte Carlo with a 400 hp 350 +.060 with a stock TH350 and a shift kit. Never had a problem with the trans. Blew up the 10 bolt rear once though. I did not run an external cooler but I did use a 4 core radiator. Make sure it is running at normal temperatures (~185-190F). The TH400 has higher internal losses than the TH350.

I actualy figured the drive shaft or U joint would let go first. The rear is a Ford 9" 4/10 Detroit Locker. Tires 17.5x32x15. I think I'll just have him go through it and put in the H/D stuff. I am not a auto trans guy to me they are just a component that is a shelf item.

Charlie, check this one out. He rates it to 500 hp.
