I guess I didn't realize the trans was a 85 because it wired different, On the A term (voltage) goes through the 3rd gear switch so you should be able to ground the D term and have it go into lockup in third gear. Iam not sure what you are refering to when you say all gears at best it should lockup in 2nd gear, can you or have you driven it since the swap? You can also check continuity
between A and D you should not have continuity until in third gear, if so it should lock up in 2nd.
Do you know if anyone has worked on this trans?

Hi ,
Sorry , in fact I'm just catching the train ...
, I'm not the one that initiated the subjet but with the same problem!!! And so far you're answer is the only one simple and clear that I've found all over the net...
, so in my case my car is an 85 trans-am that has seen it's LG4 swaped for old school 355 carb so the Tranny is still it's original TH700 and I need the lock=up running without the ECM , and you're the only one mentioning those wires color that I have wich are purple , blue and the third one black/tan. So I've hooked the blue and black.tan together et the purple to 12V key brake switch. Test drive is weird seems that the tranny is locking one each gear from first to OD..
, ANY IDEA WOULD BE HIGHLYYYY APPERCIATED !!
Thanks lot!!!

First off you need to verify that converter is locking up and in what gear by
pressing lightly on the brake pedal the converter should unlock.
As for wiring the blue wire is the 4th gear switch, in your trans it normally closed until the trans shifts into 4th gear which will not work for your app.
The tan/blk is the ground side of the tcc solenoid with it hooked to ground the trans should lock up in 2nd gear. You will either deal with it like this or you can put a 4th gear switch on valve body or on the side of the trans.
I believe you can buy a kit for summit or jegs etc. might try a google search.

what is exactely happening is when Iwired the purple wire to 12V brake switch an dwired blue together with tan/black it locked in all gear from 1 to 4...and even braking did not unlock...Then I've tried wiring still purple to that 12V ( by the way there are 2 brake switches at the pedal , one seems to have a vacuum? ) and tan/black to ground , blue to nothing and again locked in all gears ( did not try up to 4 ) then I've tried again purle to same 12V and blue to ground and tan/black to nothing and driving in city it did not lock in first 3 gears , did not try fats enouph so check 4 . So would that blue to ground and purple to 12v would be the way to lock in 4 only?
Thanks lot!!!!
