    sbc manual gearbox

now obviously my 150 lb ft landrover gearbox isnt going to be able to handle over 400 lb ft! trouble is... niether can any other silly british gearbox (unless i buy one form an armoured truck etc. which are way too heavy)

just wondering what manual gearboxs you sbc guys are runnin??? ive been known to be a bit heavy footed (i managed to break 2 gearboxes in 2 days running!) so i would like something that is a bit overrated for my planed 383 stroker.

after a bit of reasearch the best (and modestly priced) seemed to be the Tremec TKO 5-speed. ($1742) any thoughts?

    cheers guys

A super T-10 might handle it. Everybody seems to think the M-22 Muncies are up to the task of handling big torque, I've never had much luck with them.....

Since you are running it in a Land Rover, are you going to be using it for "off road" playing - mud, sand, rock, etc.? If so, take a look at the NV 4500 and similar transmissions; they'll handle the torque, and give you the gears for offroading, too. Advance Adapters is one manufacturer and supplier of these boxes, as well as a whole passel of other gear related stuff.

Geta Muncie 465 truck trans. Great strong box. Great climbing gears. Plenty strong enough with that power

Having looked at them all the NV 4500 seems the perfect choice!

Techinspector, some great choices but prob a bit overkill on the ratings and price for my application, and the Muncie 465's ratios arent great for my application. as i'll have a low ratio option, i dont really need a granny gear, and the ratios are a bit low.

the nv 4500 looks great, its got great ratios, and easily mates to a transfer case. would it be worth trying to source an old chevy/dodge as a gearbox donor over here in england then recondition, or is it worth just buying new as theyre so chep?

cheers everybody for your help so far
