    Trans Pan Sealing

Been looking at threads on Trans Pan sealing. Using gaskets vice not using gaskets. Many people have issues with leaks especially with chrome pans.
    Any inputs ?
    "lt1s10" and "DennyW"......?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. It was "cook67" who said to use white foot powder on a suspected leak. NOT "lt1s10".

If you go with a crome pan take some 80 grit sand paper and a little spray adhesive lay it on a good flat table and sand the mounting surface. Don't go to far into the crome you just want to rough the surface up. This give the gasket and or sealer something to bite on . I did this to my diff covers and no leaks, if you have the room I'd go with a larger aluminum pan.

no i dont use foot powder. back when the th400 first came out the pans would bend, crack and everything else after you pulled them off a few times, so if you want a no leak pan, strighten the pan up, clean everything , glue the gasket to the trans. (yellow snot) and then run a small bead of sealer(black) on top of the gasket and tighten the pan down, and hope you are not the next one to have to pull it off. the snot will seal the top and hold the gasket in place and the sealer will fill the cracks, and around the bolt holes. dont over tighten.

    "Yellow Snot"
The local NAPA probably won't know that nomenclature.

Care to clear that up ?
    Who makes it?
    Name, etc.
    Thanks

    Wow.
Thats why I didnt understand what you were saying.
In my minds eye I'm thinking some type of RTV or sealant.
    So:
    3M 08008 on the tranny.
    3M 08001 on the transpan
    Gasket in between both.
    Right?

    Right?
either way will work, dont put to much yellow, lay a bead of yellow on pan or trans. put gasket in place, pick it back up and then put it back in place. give it a few min to dry or it will slid off of the pan. like pat said dont use it on both sides or you will have a hard time getting it off. it has to be clean and dry. this is what you use on valve cover gaskets and front and rear intake gaskets. you cant knock the rear intake gasket off if you do it right. the yellow is not for sealing, but to hold the gasket in place.
