There are many reason's why your transmision will not shift up,,,You need to find a shop you can trust,,or a mechanic friend to take a look at it for you,, it could be something simple like a bad govenor,,,or more expensive like a bad pump,,,too many variables to go into,,,if you want more helpfull suggestion's you need to be more specific,,,like what kind of tranny is it? chevy,,,ford,,,,dodge,,,etc.
P.S. Dont go stuffing additives in your tranny,,specialy if your unfamilliar with auto transmisions.

This is probably a dumb or basic question, but I dont know much about transmissions. My trans (AT) was taking a while to change gears, so I put some LUCAS stop slip in the tranny fluid. Thi shelped a little but now when I drive the Trans wont leave the first gear.
Is this a major or a minor problem? Does the whole thing need to be changed or rebuilt? and How much shoul I expect to pay?
Any recomendations would be helpful. Thanx
