!940 ford suspension

Hey Fella's , I am new here and have enjoyed this site . I have a question?
I am building 40 ford coupe , it has mustang 2 front suspension and I need to know the correct strength of coil springs for the front end .
. It has a 350\350 . The springs on it are too weak ( came with car when I bought iti). I have seen adds for different springs
in some of the street rod parts suppliers
and they are usually rated by weight. I have a local parts store that is not typically a rod parts store but he can get springs for about any application . I was wondering if anyone on this forum has built the same car or silmular and knows what spring works well. My parts man
can get springs according to the car not the weight . I suppose something like an
1980 or so Tbird with v8 would do but really do not know . Thanks Darin

mustang2 w/a V6 spring should work just fine, since ur motor is offset towards the rear of the suspesion.....joe

In addition to Joe's good comment, you might be getting some things confused. Usually the springs that are sold by weight rating are for coilover, spring/shock combinations. "Conventional" springs are sold by vehicle application based on original equipment, just as Joe has enumerated. Since there have been some conversions that utilized coilover's on Mustang II suspensions, just want to make that clarification.

The Mustang II ('74-'78) suspension was the same as Pinto/Bobcat, and ran from '71 to '80. The '80 T-bird was built on the Fox platform (Fairmont, Mustang ('79 & up), T-bird, etc.) and used a modified McPherson strut front suspension. COMPLETELY different than the MII, and the springs are in no way interchangeable.

the statement I made about the springs being sold according to weight is somewhat true because even the site
techinspector 1 referred me to list theirs by weight but they are the first site I have seen that tells which one to use for certain applications so I thank you very much for the info and will be giving then a call soon. Darin
