When I built my 46 (about 16 years ago) I knew I wanted sway bars front and rear. I didn't have a lot of money to spend, but was fortunate to have access to a large salvage yard. I wound up using an 82 Malibu bar on the front a 70's era Camaro rear bar.

The Malibu bar is turned upside down from it's donor car and I had to slightly bend the arms in closer. I used Energy poly bushings. I reused the Mustang II end links with Energy poly cushions on the bar ends.

On the rear bar, I shortened the links that support the bar from the frame and welded small tabs to the rear crossmember to hold them. The ends of the bar fastened to the lowering blocks on the rearend (I have parallel leafs springs in back).

I don't know if either of my solutions will work for you because the 40 is not as wide as a 46. I can tell you that it is worth all the effort to put them on the car. These old fat fendered Fords are pretty top heavy. My car lays flat in the curves with minimal body roll. It's no autocrosser, but it handles pretty good for what it is.
