    Question What Strait Axle

I am building a 30 American Austin coup with a 283 and a 4 speed I want to run a strait axle. I have found several old axles I can get for very cheep ; model A, 41 ford, moris minor among others. I would like to know what the best axle might be ie; avilability ,parts, modern brake upgades.I run across quite older cars and can trade machine work for parts. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Well Ross I would try to go with the model A for your car. The Austin is pretty narrow and Ford added a few inches to the width of the axles in 41 unless its a 41 pickup axle. You would have to get spindles from a 40 to 48 Ford to put on the Model A axle. These spindles had hydraulic brakes but They aren't a very modern setup. There are a lot of kits available for disc brakes for the these Ford spindles. The morris minor axle might be the best fit but you might have problems upgrading the brakes.
If you can find an old Econoline axle (61-67) They are kinda narrow and the brakes should be good enough for a lightweight car like your's.

thanks the al show. Inever conidered a pickup axle. I can get one much esier than a car axle. But what about the weight arent pickup axles hevier. I would realy like to be able to point the hood ornament at a stoplight.

well I found somthing. I'm not positive the year but I think It'a 32-34 ford car axle. It has the realy big 5 bolt patern, mechanical brakes and cross stearing. Does any body know how to tell what year it is. I dont have any pictures yet I just got it today.
