rearend question
Does anyone know if a rearend out of a fox body mustang gt will work in a 1939 ford coupe with out modifying it? also if it does work whats the widest tire you can use

The problem with these rear ends is all the bracketry welded on that would need to be removed to clean it up enough to swap in. Not impossible, just a lot of cutting and grinding to get the housing ready for whatever suspension setup you would be using.

As Don said you will have to clean it up, but width wise its almost perfect, 59 inches I beleive, you should be able to get a eight inch rim under it with no problem with the correct offset.Toys

cutting the brackets and griding is not a big deal. Just wanted to make sure i can get some decent size tires under there with out resplining the axel

Even if you find a posi four lug axle just get the 5 lug axles from a ranger pickup, they will bolt right in, or you can use the whole ranger axle assembly, its virtually the same, or another possibility, reading info.

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
