i have cut down many fords 9s if your under 500hp with out slicks any of the ford stock axels should take that easy i have had many 28-31 re splined stock stuff and beat the hell out of it there are many back spacing and small bearing big bolt pattern and big bearing big bolt pattern and small bearing small bolt pattern for the back brake mounting plates and like said many spacings to i like the 80s truck housing not a nice looking but built ford tough they do not have the look smooth look but better to find brake parts$$ cheap and they are big drums and work great if you like stoping .very easy to change bolt circle for rims no need to plug up holes on the axles . if your lucky they have the best limited slip four spider unit . you need a jig to cut a axel down and weld the tubes back on i made up mine .but you can buy them i would not cut one down and weld up one with out one thing to is the truck axel shafts are step so they are not tapper like cars.so they can be better to respline then the cars ford roll the splines in not cut them in so if you are just cutting a small bit off the axel is under size that is were they stop were they roll the splines when they roll the spine they are then to size the rolling works up the teeth so just cutting the down a inch so will not work at times you can sometimes put the short axel shaft on the long side and just get one axel shaft cut down if you run the pinon on center i have done this but just can not remember but on the ford two wheel drive rear end housing i think it mine is at 62 hub to hub with just one axel re spline but that was the 31 stocker now i have 35 spline moser in the gto 31 moser in the 50
