Drop Axles

Hi, I just purchased a 27 ford, it has a 7" drop axle in it. I want to find out what brand it is. Which companys make a 7"?

I seriously doubt if it is 7 inches. It would be scraping the ground. Here is a 4 inch one. Measure again.

Speedeay Motors offers a 6" drop axle. You might want to look at what they offer and see if it matches what you have.

Pops.......he may have a tube axle fabbed by some T "kit" outfit somewhere over time. I've seen some 6" (Speedway I think still sells them), but agree with you, 7 would be very deep. 5" drops have become more common of late with the super low fad crowd, available in both I beam and tube.

BTW, I just noticed the other day that axles have taken about a $100+/- jump recently, world price of steel and iron is catchin' up.

Looks like a MAS set up for chevy spindles (IMHO)

They're T-Bucket type axles (welded batwings), and could very well be 7" drop. I haven't a clue about the manufacturer.

Side note: Are you aware that most header manufacturers advise against the heat wrap? It increases rusting, and it will void any warranty. Thought you might want to know.

Thanks guys. The previous owner said he thought maybe MAS? But I can't find any info on it. What would I do for a brake set up. There is alot of homemade parts. (caliper brackets ect.) Yup im aware of the header wrap, I used to work in a speed shop. I want to get new headers eventually anyways.

Looks like I stand corrected.........that is one deep axle!! Yes, Highboy 32 is right, they are '49-'54 Chevy spindles, probably that have been machined to accept later disc brakes. Speedway sells disc setups for these, assuming yours are machined to the same size. A quick check with a tape measure and calipers will tell you what size they currently are.

the front brakes are 11" disks with late model chevy calipers. The rest is fabed up. Thanks for the help guys. Much appreciated. This is a very helpful forum.
