    Anyone tried this yet?

I was going to narrow my rear in my 69' GMC PU by doing it the old school way of cutting the axles & re-splining- then cutting the tubes when a friend of mine asked me "why don't you just use Toyota 4x4 axles?"
I checked online & they are 32 spline axles only 4" shorter than my stock axles for my Chevy 12 bolt.
I'm thinking that if I use the Toyota ends of the tubes for the bearings & weld them into my Chevy tubes that I can use the brakes & still have the same bolt pattern as the Chevy 6 lug. This would be an improvement because the bearing won't be riding on the axle like the Chevy, and the Toyota axle is thicker down the axle itself.
Supposedly this will work....does anyone know, and what pitfalls should I watch out for?

You will probably wait for a while because you mentioned the forbidden word Toyota or any import car name. I have heard this but, do not have any first hand knowledge.

Jim, I talked to a friend last night who is a Chevy Fanatic and he said he's seen it done before. He couldn't give me any specifics but said that the guys around here in the mud bogs are doing just that to get stronger axle shafts. Hope that helps.

Thanks Duane, the guy that told me is a bogger maniac and borders insanity most the time- so I had to check it out before I hook-up a weak link & risk an endo...lol
Thanks falconstien, and we do have one here that WORKS for Toyota....or did, and I was hoping for some tech. advise from him but.....I think I'm going to try it & build some tubs.
