Hello Everyone;

Does anyone know if a 1953 GMC axle is compatible with a 1953 Chevy Car Spindles? I have a full 1952 GMC front end but want a disc brake setup and have 1953 Chevy car spindles which there are more kits available for the spindles.

I know that the car hubs will go on the truck spindles, giving you 5-bolt hubs, but I never tried the spindle swap. A front-end shop should be able to give you the king pin measurements.

Thank you for the reply. I guess it would help if I explained my situation a little better.

1. I just bought a 1939 Chevrolet 2 Door Sedan that I'm turning into a Hiboy Gasser (A project for my 2 daughters, 16 and 12, and myself), car came with no front end but original was the wishbone indepent front and I am going to build a solid axle front suspension for this car.

2. I just bought a 1939 Chevy Pickup Solid Front Axle with the correct width for the car but no springs, no suspension, no steering parts, no spindles or hubs.

3. I bought 1953 Chevy Car Spindles (machine the kingpins to fit the 1939 Chevy Pickup Solid Axle - as told to me by some old time gassers) and am wanting to mount a Speedway Motors front disc brake kit.

4. Just found a great deal and purchased a complete 1952 Chevy pickup solid axle front end with steering parts, hubs, brakes, springs, and shocks (not sure if it is too wide just to put on the car).

So the amazing question is: I have been told there are not that many front disc brake kits for the 1952 Chevy Pickup front spindles but there are many for the 1953 Chevy car spindles.

I have 2 options:

1 - research and measure to see if the pickup front end fits on the 1939 sedan frame and use the 1952 stock pickup front end

2 - or use all the 1952 stock pickup parts except the 1952 solid pickup axle (in place use the 1939 chevy pickup axle) and mount to the 1939 sedan frame.

.Main main concern is to get disc brakes on the front of this car!!

(using 1957 Buick 364 nailhead, Turbo 400 with 9 inch Ford rear end)

Sound confusing? (I have been deployed to Iraq for a year and am picking up all of these part in November 05 when I return so I have yet to even see it - just research on the internet in my off time)

I have a '54 Chev car and truck, and the spindles look similar. It shouldn't be too big a job to swap them, though I've never seen it done.

You can get a disc brake conversion ket from Chevy Duty. Complete kit with rottors and calipers or just conversion parts.

I bought just the conversion kit and used 76 Monti Carlo rootors and calipers. I don't have it running yet but everything appears to be of good quality and well thought out.

Would like to know where you found a solid axel 53 GMC axel and spindles. I am in the market for one. Do you know of any other solid axels available?
