Home made IFS...
Attention techinspector1!
Richard,
I was here on this forum few years ago asking some drawings and measurements for MII IFS to make my own Suspension. You gave me a lot of information and point me to the right direction Thank you. Thanks for others too.
I haven't been browsing on this forum so often because of the language barrier. Technical english is sometimes very hard to understand.
Anyway, I got my project finaly on it's feet to see how it will look like and got some photos to put on my web page if you or anybody else is intrested.
Ok, I know it's a long way untill this Rod is finnished but finally I get to see if my frame design will work.
I'm intrested to see if there are others, crazy as me to work with a similar project!!

Good progress Jani...................and like I've said before, your english is way better than any of our Finnish.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Thanx!
I'm a little confuced about the wheel & tire sizes... does anybody have any ideas?
I think the rear wheels should cover more of the rear fender well but what size should I use? I was thinking 17" wheels in the front and 20" in the rear but tires to those 20" wheels costs a fortune!
Maybe 16" in the front and 17" in the rear??? Any good ideas?
I have to make my mind on this before I deside the ride height and finalize the brackets for the rear end.

Hi Jani!
I live in the southern part of Norway, and I'm building a 34 Roadster.
Rim and wheel sizes are not easy and there is few "roules" and accurate guidelines about it.
I didn't want the very tall tire wall-look caused by the traditional setup with 15 inch rear rims.
But on the other hand, 17 inch and bigger tires are rather expensive.
For me the answer was 16 inch. The drawback here is 16 inch has become rare the last years.
On production cars 15" is still much used and on larger cars 17" is not extreme anymore.
Because of this it's not too much to choose from when it comes to wide tire dimensions.
However, BF Goodrich make a 295/50-16 tire. This is what I'm going to use at the rear.
In the front I will use 195/40-16.
My rims are 16x9" and 16x7,5".
This is a setup I've bought from a BMW. If it wasn't a question of money I would have preferred 6,5 or 7" rims in the front, but 195/40-16 will work on a 7,5" rim, so I let it pass.
BMW has 5-120mm bolt pattern and since I have a Jaguar IRS and and a Mustang II with Chevrolet bolt pattern, the BMW rims will fit right on.
Yes there are a minor difference because of the use of inches on the suspensions and metric system on the rims, but I've spoken to many people about it and thay all say the same: this work just fine. I even know a guy how race drive with this combination with no trouble at all.
Hope this is of some help for you. Just send me an E-mail (english or swedish language are ok!) if you have more questions.

I have thougt 18" wheels on the back because I saw 285/60/18 BFG tires in the Summitracing web page for 160 dollars each.
http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...1&autoview=sku
Before I order the tires I need to find proper wheels to go with them.
To the front I will use 16" or 17" depending on which looks better with the rear tires and what rims are available.
I have thougt BMW rims also that seems to be very cheap in Germany and the 5x120mm bolt circle is ok!.
Anyway I have seen some web pages from Norway where somebody is building a green 34 roadster using quarter panels from L.A.R.S. AB.
Is it yours or do you know the guy?

That's me, yes!
By the way, that ugly green color was just the grounding some earlier owner put on it after he had sandblasted it.
Take a look at my gallery. There you'll find some newer pic's.
Just now I'm in the process of finishing the welds in the floor. The body is upside down. Then I'm able to reach areas who was hard to get proper welds on when I worked on the upside of the floor.
It is a consideration how much more work I'will do on the body now before I put it away and start with the chassis.
I might do some of the finish work on it too, before I put it away. It will bee much more fun to take it back again then, when the chassis is finished.
On the other hand, I've worked on the body for 4 years now, and am getting pretty fed up of the body plate work. In addition to that, all the main components for the chassis are already bought, lying on my garage floor and eager to be mounted to the frame!

Hey bro, I´m in the same point you were before you made your suspension!
Mind if you pass the knowledge?
As you said,...maybe some drawings? sketches? close pics? measures? type of materials? Anything that can help because I`m a newbie!
Damn, I admire you, It looks very PRO.
ernesto_rvr@yahoo.com if you got information to send.
Thank you very much

Hi,
thanks for asking.
I haven't been here for a looooong time but If you dig this thread back up then you deserve an answer.
All the links of the 33 Coupe seems to be broken so here are the latest pictures:
http://www.kolumbus.fi/garage/projec...e/frameset.htm
I built the chassis to a friend but I will be involved with this project later on.
If anybody knows a good 33-34 steel body or bodyparts let me know.
I've also build another 32 Roadster from scratch and it will be driveable this spring with the doors and hinges.
The photos are here: http://www.kolumbus.fi/garage/omavalmiste

Hi......No I diden't but he might still have the plans......Hope anyway...Thanks......
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
