Big block swap on a 67 cougar

I am looking to restore a 67 cougar that was originally equipped with a 302 2v automatic. I want to swap 390GT and a C6 and was wondering if anybody knows what modifications are needed on the shock towers, and the front suspension to make the engine fit and make the car ride nice. If anyone knows anything on how to do this or knows where I can find information on this I would appreciate it.

I am have a 67 cougar, and I am putting in a 460 bb. I brought a mustang II kit from rod and custom. I cut out the shock towers and welded in the new cross member. Located a 79 mustang and the scape yard and brought the front suspension. The only parts I use were the upper and lower control arms and the spindals, and the upper mounting bushing rod, which I change all the bushing and ball joints. Then I mounted new four piston disk brakes. I would like to say that their are a lot of parts that I had to go back to Rod & Custom for which cost me. I would buy a complete mustang II from someone like Art Morrison because you will be real close on the cost. And you are going to have to change the steering rods and the rack. I have some pics in the gallery. My engine will be finish next week and I am going to be mocking up the complete suspension front and new moser 9" with alot of other goodies. Will be posting new pics very soon because my car will be in the body and paint shop in Jan 2005.

Had a '67 with a 289 4bbl. Think that a 390 will swap in with out having to go with as excessive mods as that 460 swap. Them big blocks are WIDE! Got a 351 cleveland in my comet now ( similar on engine compartment size and block width) and the worst thing about it is bolting up the headers. Busted lots of Knuckles. Manifolds would be easy, or use a short header and bolt the on before droppin it in. Should fit with-out any trouble that a self respecting back-yard mechanic can't handle. Good luck; that thing will be a bow-tie thumper when its dun!

351 cleveland will drop right in the 67 cougar with not much problem.

Some of the Cougars came stock with 428's, and a lot of them came with 390's. Should swap right in with stock parts. For handling, most of the suspension parts are the same as the Mustang.
