    HEI distributor blues

    Hey all,

    350 chev .30 over 11.5:1 compression heavy cam'd

after 5 years of running this combination there seems to be a ghost than wants to cause my distributor to destroy caps and rotors?!?!?!? Any ideas to what this may be caused by? changed out distributor and installed new cap/rotor and after 1/8 mile, the cap is undone from distributor and rotor is mashed!?!??!?!

idles like a charm, but when you put your foot into it ............yuck!

any help would greatly be appreciated.

How close is the distributor to the firewall, and what could it be hitting? It sounds like mechanical damage. Broken motor mount letting the engine move more than it should under torque?

I would say also check your distributor for worn bearings and or broken/missing retaining posts on the cetrifugal advance under the rotor cap.

    thanks Henry Rifle!

The distributor is not that close to the firewall, but ignoring the motor mounts was a major boo-boo! Jacked up the motor and kaboom! The driver side mount was let go and it allowed the motor to move just enough to touch the firewall.

Installed a new motor mount and set the timing back up and it pulls like a train and has had it problems resolved!

Thanks to all who offered advice!
