Nope, can't say as I seen him. We fish on Cayuga and sometimes Seneca, once a long time ago we waz going to fish Owasco lake but, the people at the launch said we needed a Owasco inspection sticker for the boat and never tried back since. I was up at our house in Savannah Ny all weekend and me, my dad and my grandpa fished on the boat.Originally posted by Streets

That's the way most big chain stores work, run the small town stores out then start running eachother out till theres only 1. Wal*Mart did it, targets trying and Dicks sporting goods started it and it looks like Bass Pro Shops will finish it off.Originally posted by NTFDAY
Bass Pro's HQ is here in Springfield and I don't begrudge Morris's fame and fortune, but in my opinoin he stepped on a lotta little folks to get there and that I do begrudge him.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Well, I got an email from the guy, and there is a story, a long one, to quote what he said. The bad part is he wants me to call him to get it.Originally posted by pro60chevy
I betcha he knows too.
Maybe I'll save me the trouble of listening, and just send him an email right now.
I'm never gonna remember what he tells me.
I'll do my best, it's the least I can do for all those inquiring minds.

I have to edit what was told, due to space. The call only took 45 minutes! Ok, this is the poop. They were trash, plain and simple. They had excellent idle quality, and they were good at a constant speed. They were fine as long as you didn't step on the gas pedal, or when you finally got it up to a cruising speed, you didn't want to go faster. Seems that it had a sweap inside the float bowl that would move the fuel up to an area where it would be drawn out by vacuum. The choke rod had a series of holes that would alow air to pass helping to suck the gas out. The carb had 40 to 60% more venturi area than a normal carb.
Charles Fish, the inventor, passed away sometime in the 1950's. The carburetor was pretty good for the 1951 Hudson dual 6. In fact, the Hudson won many Nascar races with a Fish on it, so to speak. A company in Eupope called Tyce bought the rights to produce the carb. They manufactured about 200 out of the 10,000 they had originally thought, and they didn't work. A midwestern automotive buff did his own test with a 1962 Ford Falcon. The mileage went from 23mpg with the brand new original carb, to a record breaking 26mpg with the Fish. He said that he had to back his car into the garage, so that when he left he'd have a running start. His driveway was on a downhill grade from his garage.
That's all, the rest is just as boring.

And now for the rest of the story. Charles had a "thing" going with his secretary. With Charles gone, the CEO was left to do what he could to keep the company going, so he fixed the books. An EPA member tried one of his carburetors and was very disappointed. Needles to say, to save face with his friends, he decided to come down on the Fish company. After the EPA guy shut them down he was unable to keep up with his lease payments, and you know what happens when you do that. In the end, Shell Oil made an offer and it was counter offered by an unknown government official.
You win!
Ha, not really. But it sure sounded more feasable than the other story.
