One of mine is an IDidIt tilt column, and one is Flaming River tilt, both "GM Style" and both floor shift, no column shifter or key. Neither has the locking ring you describe. Once the wheel is off the horn contact/turn signal cancel ring can be lifted out and clocked, then the spring, wheel & nut hold it all in place. Sounds much easier than stock. Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
