    Radiator Shroud

     



    I have a 48 Ford Anglia with a 355 ci. SB. The radiator leans back approx. 22 degrees. It has three fans. One large one that covers the entire radiator in the front and two twelve-inch fans that cover the back. On hot days (85') and sitting at a light the temp. climbs up to 220'. (normally it runs 180-185'). I notice the inside bottom fan pushes air down below the bottom pully. I believe that if I were to direct the air of the bottom fan more upward this should improve the cooling. I have looked at building one myself or buying something I can make fit. i.e. sheet metal duct box reducer. I'm looking for ideas/pictures of laid-back radiators with a homemade or purchased shroud.

    Have you ever tried running it without the pusher fan? (The one in front.) That's just bad practice.
    If it were me, I'd see if you could use the front one and move it to the rear and add whats needed to pull all the air from across the whole radiator.

    under edit - It looks like the 2 rear fans are mounted to a piece of aluminum plate that is flush to the radiator core, that's preventing any air movement on those parts of the radiator.

    I have not tried running with only the front fan mounted to the rear. That's an idea worth trying. Thanks!

    I agree with Mike, I believe you're blocking air flow with too many fans, and I'd lose the pusher, moving it to the back. One large diameter has more surface area than two smalls.

    Mine is VERY congested, so it's hard to get a good picture but my "shroud" is an aluminum "box" that stands off of the radiator core about 1/2", closed top & bottom with a single 16" SPAL fan and programmable controller. Shortly after I got the car going I was idling around a car show and my temp was 240F or more when I realized I had failed to power the fan circuit. I hit the switch, and the temp started dropping as I watched it settle at 190 to 200 within a couple of minutes, barely moving around the road in the park. A puller fan, pulling through the entire core is best.
