Jeff, you're probably well aware but just in case someone else reads this later the "cooler" in the radiator also serves as a heat sink in the winter, keeping the tranny fluid at operating temperature. If used, an external cooler should be in the line going TO the radiator, not in the return line from the radiator. In winter driving the extra cooler will pre-cool the fluid, then the internal cooler will get the fluid to the right temp for the tranny, either cooling it further or warming it a bit.
